Given that acne is one of the most common diseases in the world, were constantly surprised at the amount of misinformation floating around out there about “miracle” acne treatments. There are so many commonly misheld beliefs regarding acne treatments that have absolutely no scientific or medical validity, but continue to be passed on from individual to individual.

Non-working Acne Treatments

1. Household cleaning products, even when diluted, should not be used to treat acne. There can be severe adverse reactions and consequences, including chemical burns or worse, when following these suggested treatments.

2. Similarly, standard home cleaning powders are just ineffective as an acne treatment.

3. Standard dish washing liquids do not work and shouldn’t be used and to treat acne.

4. Home facial saunas do little to nothing for your acne and may even aggravate already sensitive skin.

5. Sticky tape left on the skin overnight and removed in the morning will certainly remove dead skin cells and excess oil, but is more likely to damage sensitive skin and may even cause additional aggravation or allergies, due to the glues used in the tape.

6. Prolonged exposure to the sun or using a sun bed will not help your acne, and can be dangerous if you are also taking certain types of oral medication. For example taking certain antibiotics in tablet form will make your skin highly sensitive to sunlight, which is not healthy for acne prone skin.

7. Sudocrem is an excellent treatment for nappy rash and may have some effective on acne. However, monitor use carefully as it tends to dry out skin and leave it flaky.

8. Taking high doses of vitamin A or B will not directly help your acne, and may cause other side effects.

9. Squeezing zits, white and black heads, or other spots is universally not recommended in combating acne. Doing so typically prolongs and spreads the acne causing bacteria to other parts of the immediate area, thereby increasing the possibility of further problems rather than eliminating the current one.

Acne Treatment Is A Process

There are many other acne treatment regimes that are ‘not recommended’, many of which will just worsen an already problematic condition. When it comes to acne you should really try to avoid shortcuts and stick with well-defined cleansing program, overseen by your medical professional if your condition is severe.

Trying to take a shortcut to clear skin with unproven acne treatments tends to worsen the problem. However, time and patients usually result in the ability to overcome those pesky acne conditions you find so embarrassing.
The post 9 Acne Treatments That Definitely Do Not Work first appeared on At Home Acne Remedy.

In this day and age most people are concerned about finding products that treat acne, yet perhaps the more important question they should consider is how to prevent acne. After all a wise man named Benjamin Franklin once said “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Prevention is always the best medicine, but you can’t always prevent things something. Having said that, here are five surprising acne treatments you may not have thought of before.

Tea Tree Oil for Acne

Tea tree oil contains a number of active ingredients known to have anti-bacterial, as well as, anti-microbial benefits. Medical experts tend to compare tea tree oil to benzoyl peroxide in effectiveness, and consider them to be very similar in make-up. Many topical creams and skin lotions use tea tree extracts, due to their natural healing properties. Tea tree oil appears to reduce pimple formation on the skins surface.

Acne and Exfoliating

Achieved through mechanical or chemical means, exfoliating is the process of removing the oldest dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface, and has been around for thousands of years to help maintain healthy skin. Shedding the outer skin layers helps to unclog pores, keeps skin clean, and reduce acne outbreaks.

It is possible to over exfoliate, which dries and irritates the skin, so don’t exfoliate too often and make sure to moisturize afterwards if you experience dry skin.

Diet Tips for Acne

There are a number of foods that may alter hormonal levels trigger acne breakouts, that’s why individuals suffering from acne breakouts need to focus on their diet. Here are some foods to consider limiting or adding to your diet.

Milk consumption should be limited for people suffering from acne. Milk contains a number of chemical components that increase sebum production, which along with excess dead skin cells cause acne. Acne sufferers should increase fruits and vegetables in their diet, as they contain a number of vitamins and minerals that help to reduce acne.

Garlic has a long history of medicinal uses, as it contains several chemical compounds that have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Acne

Apple cider vinegar is a power natural cleanser used for many aliments. For acne sufferers this is great news, because apple cider vinegar helps balance the skin’s pH level (acidity level). A balanced pH helps to make sure that the acne causing bacteria cannot thrive in the body.

Apple cider vinegar has a strong odor and dries out skin. Apple cider vinegar is an acid and can actually burn the skin, so be careful when applying as an acne treatment.

Lemons for Acne Treatment, Not Just Lemonade

Squeeze the juice from a lemon and use it alone or in combination with other ingredients, like honey, egg whites, or yogurt, directly on the skin. Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C and has many benefits. It’s also a citric acid, which helps to exfoliate the skin, an important step in treating acne. As an astringent it dries up blemishes. Lemon juice is also a natural skin whitener, which can reduce a pimple’s redness. Lemon slices can also be applied to fresh acne scars. The exfoliation process helps speed up the healing and the bleaching properties help to improve the skins look as well.

Home Remedy Acne Treatments

Many people find that home remedy acne treatments work wonders, while others find little relief. The best news about acne home remedies is that they are usually inexpensive to try. Although some do have side effects, they are significantly less than potential side effects of prescription drugs and some over the counter medications. And with many home remedy acne treatments, if they don’t work you’ll be able to use the ingredients for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!
The post 5 Surprising Home Remedy Acne Treatments first appeared on At Home Acne Remedy.

Whenever you go to a beautician, dermatologist, or cosmetologist you may wish to take your own tools with you to help prevent yourself from blood born infections like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV. Although most certified and well established business do a very good job of training their employees and cleaning their equipment, you can never be too careful when community tools are being used. So, is it really that hard to use a blackhead remover?

Removing Blackheads

First of all blackheads, or open comedones, are a mixture of dead skin cells, oil and bacteria that builds up inside the pores of our skin. These annoying skin conditions can be removed using a specialize blackhead remover tool. Note: it’s highly recommended that you consult a dermatologist or qualify individual for information on the proper use of any tool that you’re going to use on your body. And you should also use qualified tools like professional aesthetician or dermatologist, and not some homemade do-it-yourself contraption.

After a shower is an ideal time to extract blackheads, however, we don’t always remember to do it then. So before we start the actual removal process, lay a warm, wet washcloth on your face for a few minutes over the affected blackhead area. Steaming the face or using hot water compress is also strongly recommended. Either method will help soften comedones, making the removal process that much easier.

When you’re ready to begin the extraction process lay the looped side of the tool on top of the blackhead – basically encircling this area with the loop. Apply slow and even pressure lightly until the trapped sebum is forced out of the follicle. The blackhead — oil and all — will ooze up and out of the pore. Do not continue to attempt the extraction if the trapped sebum is not released easily.

Applying too much force and improperly removing the blackhead can cause infection and scarring. When piercing a whitehead with lancet (pointed end of the tool), wait until the whitehead breaks open and then gently roll the tool over the whitehead. Be sure to properly disinfect all areas of your skin when finished removing blackheads and more importantly, make sure you clean your tool off with alcohol and/or hot water. The last think you want to do is to put away dirty tools and then use them at a future date.

Cyst Removal

A deep, cystic pimple should not be opened with the lancet. Sure there are plenty of videos online showing people removing cysts, but when dealing with deep acne it’s always best to visit a certified dermatologist or surgical doctor. A doctor will perform any necessary surgery in a sterile environment, reducing the risk of further infection. Most acne surgeries can be done on a walk out patient basis in under an hour.

Try to remember that most of the time acne and blackheads will go away on their own with no more than a simple proper daily skin cleaning regiment. However, if you are dead set on clearing up these acne issues under your own time schedule instead, always make sure you use professional quality tools on your skin rather than buying cheap, lower quality tools or using homemade devices.
The post How To Use Blackhead Remover Tools first appeared on At Home Acne Remedy.

Acne Control is About Education and Effective Products

Acne control starts when an individual strives to find the best possible skin care regiment, as well as, the best skin care products. There are several ways in which an individual can find a way to control their acne successfully, including natural acne treatments and laser treatments. Lets take a simple look at a couple of those treatments.

Natural Acne Treatments

The first and best way to treat acne is to use natural acne treatments. These will include a wide range of vitamins and minerals for your skin. You’ll want to look for and find a good assortment of natural skin care products; products that do not contain a lot of toxic chemicals that are harmful to your body. You’ll also want to supplement any of these natural products with a good, well balanced diet and exercise. Because acne is an infection of the skin, giving your body the essential nutrients that it needs to fight infection is an essential part of the healing process.

Control Acne With A Good Skin Regiment

One of the most beneficial things that you can do when it comes to acne skin care is to use a good, solid cleansing regiment for your skin, especially the face since it is most prone to acne attacks. This will include anti-bacterial products and exfoliating that work to improve your face and body’s look. These products help kill off the bacteria that are causing your acne, as well as, helping to get rid of the dead skin cells that the bacteria are feeding off of.

Something you may want to consider is Proactiv® a simple skin care system for clean, beautiful skin. However, finding the acne control system that’s right for your needs is not easy. You may find that the best thing to do is to seek out alternative treatments such as laser treatments and chemical peels. Or you may want to visit a dermatologist, one who may have a different approach or may prescribe acne medication, if necessary.

Top Things To Do To Heal Acne

Acne can be extremely persistent, especially during your teenage years. Sometimes you’ll try a new cleaning method or result to trying an drug to control your acne, it seems to get better, and then a week later you’re back to the same old breakouts and zits. When all else fails a dermatologist can diagnose your skin condition and offer targeted approaches to fighting your acne.

If you’re thrown for a loop with acne, and you’ve tried everything under the sun, don’t be afraid to ask for a little help. Don’t let those embarrassing pimples and zits get the best of you, there are plenty of things to do to heal your acne.
The post Top Things To Do To Heal Acne first appeared on At Home Acne Remedy.

The post Well Defined Acne Myths – True or False? first appeared on At Home Acne Remedy.

There’s no easy way to say it, so the skinny on this one is that there is a lot of misleading and downright wrong information out there about acne. Fortunately, years of scientific research have dispelled many of these ‘acne myths’ and we now have a fairly significant idea of what does and does not cause acne. Below we’ll take a look at some of the biggest acne myths and find out which ones are “True or False Acne Myths.”

Acne Myth #1: Eating certain foods causes acne

Will little scientific proof; this one has been around a long time. Although some individuals do experience acne outbreaks when they eat specific foods, there is no universal law that applies to everyone. Eating things like pizza, chocolate, nuts, and greasy foods will in most instances not increase your acne.

Acne Myth #2: Having dirty skin will increase your acne

Clean skin does have many benefits, and dirty skin does not necessarily cause acne. Formed under the surface of the skin, acne is due to the build-up of sebum and dead skin cells that clogs your pores. Although dirt may contribute to the clogging of pores, it is not the main cause of your acne.

Acne Myth #3: Continued washing of your skin will clear up acne

Having clean skin does help, but it’s not the only answer to preventing acne. Excessive and improper cleaning can damage your skins surface making matters worse. Stripping your skin of natural oils may lead to future acne breakouts.

Acne Myth #4: Adults are immune to acne

While true that 9 out of 10 teenagers experience acne, it‘s also true that 1 in 4 adults will at some time in their life suffer from acne as well. The acne hormone connection is well known, which explains why teenagers have such a high incidence of acne. However, adults also go through hormonal changes at various times in their lives and are therefore not immune to acne attacks either.

Acne Myth #5: Acne is caused by stress

Although there is scientific evidence showing that stress is not a large factor in the cause of acne, it is known that stress does tend to throw the bodies natural balances out of whack.
