Acne is a skin ailment that affects millions of people and that includes just about everyone at some point in their life. Almost ninety percent of the world’s total population is affected by acne, with an even higher percentage of teenagers being affected. Like most skin disorders, acne varies from rather mild to extremely severe cases. Typically characterized by incidences of pimples and blackheads on the face, neck, chest, and back, acne sometimes forms deep under the skin creating an acne cyst.

What Causes Acne Cyst

Acne cysts are the result of bacterial infections deep within the skin. In contrast to blackheads and whiteheads that are typically surface level blemishes, acne cyst are generally huge inflamed lesions that are filled with pus. Caused by a clogged pore, oils produced by the skin seep into the skin and when combined with bacteria a major localized immune response is produced. The clogged pore acts like a dam. As the skin continues producing oil and backs up the cyst continues to grow in size.

Since acne cyst form within pores they can grow any place on the body and often look like a nodule. Typically having a diameter of 5mm or more across, acne cyst will continue to grow if left untreated. Although acne cysts are usually just “ugly bumps” they can become rather painful as they increase in size.

Acne Cyst Treatment and Prevention

Acne cyst can be treated and prevented. Conceivably the best way to treat and prevent ace cyst from forming in the first place is to not squeeze, pick or pinch the early lesions as this may cause a deeper infection and more painful inflammation. In the earliest stages acne cyst can be treated with oral and topical antibiotics. In the case of modest to severe acne cyst, the most common therapy usually ends up being surgery.

Often done as outpatient surgery, the typical acne cyst can be removed in as little as 15 – 20 minutes. After numbing the area with a local anesthesia, followed by a quick incision, some squeezing, pulling, a few stiches and it’s over. However, to be successful the surgeon must remove the “entire acne sac” that formed under the skin. Two weeks later the stiches will be removed and usually within a month everything is pretty well healed and unnoticeable. By the way, don’t worry about a possible bald spot if your cyst is located on your “noggin” because a good surgeon will remove the acne cyst without having to shave any of your hair!

Revenge of the Acne Cyst

Unfortunately, even when surgery is required and the entire acne sac is removed, there is no 100% method that will absolutely prevent an acne cyst from returning. Just like all other cases of acne, acne cyst form in the pores of the body and the body is just loaded with pores.

Acne cyst have no limits and will seek revenge on any willing and able body, so make sure to always follow a good skin care cleaning regiment and eat healthy too. Both of these activities will help keep acne at bay and should you find yourself suffering from an acne cyst, make sure you seek out a qualified medical professional for guidance soon than later.
The post Acne Cyst first appeared on At Home Acne Remedy.
